War on My Rack

I'm so proud of my husband. Ben walked a 5K with his co-workers early this morning for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. He actually thought that he had to ask if it was okay if he took a Sunday morning to go and participate! Crazy man! He joined 15 other co-workers and thousands of Denver area residents in the walk/run. He said that there was no civility though because their were protesters out with signs protesting everything from abortion to the war in Iraq while all people were trying to do was raise funds and awareness for a good cause. The most humorous sign that he saw was one that said, "Stop the War on My Rack". Too bad he didn't take his phone or I'd have some pictures to share. He is currently taking a hot shower and is going to recuperate for the day by watching some football. He's is in pretty high spirits now, we'll see how he feels later!

Physical Therapy Update

Cara had her routine PT appointment today. She sees her therapist in our home once every two weeks. Lisa showed some continuing concern for how Cara's right foot turns in when she walks. We have been hoping that as she became more and more mobile, that her weight bearing on her feet would solve the problem but, that doesn't seem to be happening. So, Lisa talked with me about getting special insoles for Cara's shoes to help correct the curvature problem. Lisa will do the measurement for the inserts and fill out the order form the next time that she comes. We will then have to pay about $60 for them and they will be delivered to us in two weeks. Because the inserts are a bit thick, getting them will also require the purchase of a new pair of shoes. Cara will have to wear a supportive high heeled boot, which her therapist is going to help me pick up. It's going to be tricky to find shoes that will fit the inserts, so I'm glad to have professional help.

With these special inserts, we are hoping that the problem will correct itself within a few months. If not, we may have to move on to more invasive procedures like braces. Only time will tell.

Elephant Walk

While I am hoping to get these events on video, I just had to share them before I forgot. Here is what's new for Cara as of late---

**She is walking up to 20 steps without assistance! She just stands herself up and waddles around the room. She still likes to have something to hold onto at her final destination, but this is great progress!

**She walked, holding onto my hand, from our car, up several steps, and to the door of the ice cream place without falling or stopping! That was about a 1/8 of a mile. Her endurance certainly is building.

**She is now doing the "elephant walk" or crawling with her hands and feet instead of knees. She thinks this is so funny to do and is usually laughing her heart out while moving across the floor.

Cara Walks...with some help!

Thanks Aunt Effie, Uncle Kofi, Aunt Susan and Grandma Ogoe for this wonderful gift! As you can see, Cara is getting lots of use out of it.
She just might be walking by her 2nd birthday! Woo hoo!

**Seems to be a problem with the video, I will see if I can fix it or if it's a Blogger problem. Check back soon!**
